Firstly I would like to say to the contributors a big thank you for this wonderful collection of vintage postcards it has been a great source of inspiration to me. I am a designer and author of needle painting embroidery and would like to use some of these images for adaptation and reproduction in embroidery for a book I am working on at present about vintage miniatures. Please could someone make contact with me to discuss permissions as to the use of these images. My email address is:
erenvale@mweb.co.za.
Many thanks

Hello All.

I have a large framed 'Oilette' printed picture titled 'FLOWERS OF THE FIELD' a4 size in a white border. At the right top edge of the picture 'Copyright 1911 by Raphael Tuck & Sons Ltd London, Paris, Berlin and New York Publishers to their Magesties Printed In England'. It has a stamp that I believe is Oilette. I purchased it in a frame, which I then took apart and it has a newspaper dated 10th Dec 1911 in the back of the picture. It isn't a postcard but more like a picture. Two girls are picking white flowers with a back drop of mountains, a bridge over a river and what looks like a church. What type of postcard/picture is this? Did they sell poster type pictures as well as postcards?
Many thanks
Kim

Fantastic site, like many users I am only following a small part of it.
Is there anywhere that users can comment on individual cards (ie informative comments)? For example card Parliament Street Harrogate HG10 gives date first used as 28/05/1915 but looks more like 1951 to me. Ditto other cards in set.

I have come across two examples from the Bookmarker series neither of which appear in the database. The first is Rough Sea off the Pier, Margate from series 15. The second is of Lynmouth from series 16. Series 15 has a first used date of 08/10/1904. Both examples have been postally used and are postmarked Bilston, 9pm May 26th 04 which predates the first used date in the database. Can anyone advise please.

Congratulations to all! This wonderful site was not up when I last checked on Raphael Tuck & Sons. I cannot help with postcards because not a collector but have been interested in Adolph for years because he was a remote cousin and lifelong friend to the Anglo-Zionist, Herbert Bentwich and his family and I am expert about them. Your current image of Adolph is a shocker. I will look out for something better but this will take a while. He was dubbed 'baronet' not 'baron' (hence 'sir' not 'lord'). I think you should add Sydney, Australia to the list of Tuck offices around the world - not sure when but will check and let you know. One branch of the family also settled in Australia but I have not got time to go there.

Can anyone tell me where I can get more of these pictures about this town or in this set. Found this amongst some old documents. Many thanks

I have a set of bookends or bookshelf with ends inset with Ye Beadle and Ye Parson by John Hassall. Could you tell me when and where was this made and retailed? It is Arts and Crafts Oak. Was there a furniture company hired to use the plates as insets? Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Helen Jackson, one of the illustrators for Raphael Tuck, was my great-great-aunt. I have collected a few postcards and books illustrated by her, and also have in my possession one of her paintings and a print (not sure if printed by Raphael Tuck or not, as there is nothing to indicate who the printer/publisher was). Both of these were handed down through the family.
